The leaders of our three main parties are all on the war path to Downing Street. So their speeches, body language and media appearances are all being dissected for signs of anything fishy. Today’s politics it seems, is not about what is said, but how.

The same is true in our lives. First impressions matter. We really do judge a book by it’s cover. With that in mind I’ve laid out some suggestions for making a good impression when meeting people.

1. Hello. How are you?
Start simply with this, but be careful. They will probably reply, ‘Fine, how are you?’ Don’t think this is a opportunity to tell them. Nobody actually wants to know how you are, and it’s considered bloody rude to tell them. The correct response therefore is ‘fine’, or ‘good thanks‘. You might recently have had your arm torn off, it would still be ‘fine’. You might have a tumor the size of a mellon, on your face, it would still be ‘fine’. At a stretch it might be- ‘bearing up’ or ‘mustn’t grumble’
To avoid this, some of you might be tempted to say ‘How do you do?’ Don’t be a spaz, you’re not Oscar Wilde.

2. The Weather.
Now, you might want to mention the weather. This is perfectly acceptable. We Brits get accused of being obsessed with the weather. We’re not gathering meteorological data. It is a very good way to ease into a conversation. An American might go straight in-”Hi I’m Bob from Montana, got 3 kids, 2 ex-wives and 1 ball.” This is not acceptable. We need to be more reserved. “hello, I’m British, I shall be divulging personal data over the next 20 to 25 years. Turned out nice again.”

3. Where are you from?
Slowly you’re uncovering more information. You might now advance to ‘where are you from’. But advance with caution. Never ask ‘where do you live?’ It sounds stalkerish and rapey. As if you’re about to say “I know you do, right by that badly lit park.”

4. What do you do?
Use only when completely floundering for anything else to say. Many people simply don’t wish to be defined by their job. I hate being asked myself. “A comedian, wow I’d never have guessed!” I hate that, particularly at gigs.

More tomorrow on HANDSHAKING and HUGGING.

Is it time to vote again? It’s like trying to choose a jumper at M&S. They’re all as awful as each other. I don’t wear jumpers, and I probably won’t be voting. If I do vote it will be to try to keep the BNP out, not because I actually support anyone else. That’s depressing. But then I have no right to criticise apparently if I don’t vote. I’ve never really understand that. I didn’t vote for Hitler, doesn’t mean I approve. I didn’t vote against Jedwood either, doesn’t mean I don’t want to hit them with a shovel.
What’s depressing me further is due to all this electioneering we have to hear roving reports from some provincial nether-region of the UK. This is to find out what the man on the street thinks. Turns out he usually thinks it’s the IMMIGRANTS. It’s all their fault. Whatever IT is?
Is it really still their fault? Is it their fault MP’s diddled their expenses? Is it their fault the catholic priests diddled their congregation? And what does diddle even mean in this context? You don’t know? That’s immigration for you. If only there hadn’t been so many Poles at your school, your grasp of the vernacular would be so much better, right?
(by the way- grasping vernaculars isn’t refering to catholic priests again)
As I listen, it strikes me, it’s not the people who are coming here that’s the problem. It’s some of the people who are already here.
Banging on about ‘there ain’t no black on the union jack‘. Glad they’ve got such a firm grasp on the socio-economic situation. Since when did you have to be the colours of our flag to be British. In order to be British, you have to be red, white, and blue? Smurfs are red white and blue. These people are idiots.

looking for dark matter? try youporn.com. that's free!

Hurray! It’s been broken down for 18 months, but today, The Cern Hadron Collider is back open! Sounds like an advert for Alton Towers. I wish it was, it would have been a lot cheaper and a lot more fun. For £6billion we humans have built a machine that smashes 2 balls together at the speed of light. This apparently recreates conditions just after the big bang. I once smashed my 2 balls together at about the speed of sound. (The sound wasn’t pleasant). This recreated conditions that if you paid me £6 billion I wouldn’t do again.

But for £6 billion they get to find ‘dark matter’. They could find dark matter on youporn.com for free. As computer geeks, I’m surprised they don’t already know that. Clearly a sign that there are too many women now in science! (that’s a joke- women are welcome to science).

I’m sure all this is very important, but as I am currently having problems travelling by train to Manchester at Easter at the speed of 100mph, I’m finding it difficult to celebrate. Particularly when I paid just under £6 billion for the ticket. And there’ll probably be a collision, explosion or a breakdown.

I’m being cynical. We need to shoot things at things for that will unlock the secrets of the universe? Sounds like American foreign policy. Sounds like something they’d do on Top Gear. Hey! Let’s shoot a bus at a Toyota Prius and see what happens! I know what will happen, they’ll be a big bang, and Jeremy Clarkson will say something racist.
One of the secrets of the universe I’d like unlocking, is how he has a career on tv. I digress. Good luck in Cern boys. Go figure it all out and let us know when you’re done.

‘Suffer the little children to come unto me,” Christ once said to the Apostles, as you well know! As with so much of his teaching, this seems to have got (mis)interpreted along the way.

If the Pope is going to pretend to apologize to us for paedophiles, as seen in the picture above, then could he at least ask his face to play along.

“The papal nuncio in Dublin has used diplomatic immunity to refuse to collaborate in any investigations into clerical child sex abuse from a government-appointed commission. The Vatican refuses to permit it to co-operate with such a commission or to attend at a parliamentary committee meeting requested by members of the sovereign parliament of this state to discuss these issues.” (quoted from the Guardian)

Wow, that’s amazing! The Catholic Church can just tell the government it’s above the law! And yet I need a police check if I want to help with my daughter’s school swimming lessons.

What a wonderful world.

It has occured to me that the Vatican’s attitude to hiring paedophiles is pretty much the publics attitude towards climate change. They know damn well it’s happening, but it’s much more convenient to pretend it doesn’t.

I’m quite pleased with that title. They should give me a job at The Sun. I’m touring the United Arab Emirates. It’s a funny old place but I like it. (see earlier article). Though I feel very out of place. I think it’s because I alone, it seems, have heard of climate change! Despite the fact that outside is a pizza oven, no one wants to mention the elephant in the room. Possibly they can’t see it due to the air pollution.

You see bizarre stuff everywhere. A drink called ’sweat’, signs for ‘no bombing’ in the swimming pool. I even met Osama Bin Laden’s brother. He’s got about 80 so it’s not that incredible. What is incredible is that as I came off stage he said to me, several shi-ites to the wind(see what I did there?) hey you crazy man! Have you ever been sectioned under the mental health act? When Osama’s brother reckons you’re nuts, you need to take a good long look at yourself.

I had a short look at myself this morning and came to the conclusion I was ok, but feeling like a fish out of water; like a piggy in the middle-east. This was compounded when asking last night’s audience if they believed in global warming? Ok, I was in Qatar, which is to oil what the Catholic church is to paedophilia, (ie. they produce a lot off it), but if I’d asked if they’d ever painted their arse blue and sung ‘Let’s talk about Sex’ at the Vatican, I’d have got more. No-one cares! Well at least they’re honest about it.

In the UAE, the cars are 30% cheaper, petrols about 15p a litre, and most of them work in the oil industry, so no wonder they’re burying their head’s in the sand. The worrying thing is I’ve noticed the same response at home. No-one cares.

And so it is revealed that the Pope knew all along about those paedophile allegations in Germany. Shame on him. Shame on him. Is the Vatican trying to test the faithful? What else could they possibly be up to? Putting an ex Nazi in charge clearly wasn’t enough, they needed him to ramp it up by turning a blind eye to paedophile priests.

What scares me is not that it happens in the Catholic Church, tell us something we don’t know, but that it won’t stop people being Catholic. In fact it’ll probaly help the numbers. Why are people happy to believe in Catholicism, after all these things come out, but you can’t get anyone to believe that the North-Pole is history?

Perhaps if the Climate Protesters spent a little less time getting arrested at G8 summits and a bit more touching kids then they’d get a lot more people on board.

Don’t worry I shall say a penance for that. Here it comes.
Hail Mary, Hail Mary, Heil Hitler.

Incredible news. Tescos got whooped, David and Goliath style, in Sheringham, Norfolk. Perhaps I can start liking people again? Perhaps there is a God? Perhaps I’ll move to Norfolk? Ok, let’s not get carried away. But I rejoice that the Death Star of supermarkets has been destroyed, if only in this small way here. ‘Just like Beggar’s Canyon back home’ cries Clive Hay Smith no doubt, who is behind the winning alternative- a farmers market type supermarket selling local produce.

But it’s sad that this is incredible news really. Because this triumph of logic shouldn’t be special. It shouldn’t be groundbreaking. It should be obvious. I’m not anti tesco, per se, but do we really need any more? Or do we need some alternatives? And If you put a Tesco store into a community, it tends to strangle it. All the other butchers and bakers and candlestick makers go tits up or belly up, or something. Then there’s no choice and all we get to eat is Tescos Nazi rations. Actually that’s probably not fair on the Nazi’s. Their food was probably delicious. Bavarian sausage anyone?

Whereas Tescos food is tastless, often no cheaper than the butcher/ baker/candlestick maker, and contains more chemicals than a drug mule’s bum.

For instance Tescoes tomatoes, are alarming! Perfectly red, perfectly round, perfectly symmetrical on the vine.- That’s not food, that’s an Eastern Block lab experiment. Nature just doesn’t look like that! Them tommies have clearly been interferred with more times than a choirboy. I’m afraid to cut one open lest there’s a little Frankensteiny face on the inside, with a voice like Martina Navratilova, going “master, you have freed me at last oh master!”

A genetically engineered genie you just let out it’s tomatoey bottle. “I grant you 3 wishes oh master.”

Really? Ok, 1. Tesco shareholders meeting, MD says, Well, I think we’ve all made quite enough money, So what say we stop lowering the standards and call it a day? Golf anyone?

2. I wish people would find this a bit funnier.

Don’t worry master, it’s educational, just get back to the dirty jokes soon.

Ok 3. Can I have a bigger knob?
Oh we’ve only had a couple of peach snaps right boys?”

Just got back from Sweden (minus 22 degrees anyone?). Nowhere near as much raping and pillaging as I was hoping for. And they don’t throws axes at busty wenches anymore. Well no-one told me! My apologies again to Helena.

Despite that, I did some lovely shows in a beautiful old Stockholm theatre. I was on after Grease-The Musical. Everyone should hear Grease Lightning in swedish! superb!

One thing of note, those Swedes like a drink! Now we Brits like a drink of course, and Sweden is the only other place I’ve been where they drink as much as us. But interestingly, they pretend they don’t! We’re quite happy to embrace our alcoholism. We see a bloke staggering down the street with a traffic cone on his head, we don’t think what’s that buffoon doing? We think- there’s a man having a good night. Go about your business sir, safe trip home.

I tried to get into a nightclub in Stockholm. The security guard, who looked like a modern day Eric the Bastard or Olaf the Fudgepacker or ..well he looked mean and hard as a row across the Atlantic, asked how many drinks I’d had! I genuinely thought he was taking the mick. Loads!, I said, truthfully. Then he thought I was taking the mick. Are you drunk? he said. Of course, I said. It’s 2 in the morning. Why else would I be here?

Now you would never been asked that in the UK. You could be carried unconscious by your friends into a night club, the only thing security would say- he better not be wearing trainers!

I wonder if anyone asked the fallen Viking chiefs, as they entered Valhalla, drinking from the skulls of their vanquished emeny- How many of those have you had? Are you drunk?

Funny how times change.

The Pope, recently said Homosexuality is as bigger threat to humanity as the destruction of the rainforest!…No it isn’t. Not unless gay sex produces a lot more carbon monoxide than we previously imagined. In fairness, I’m not sure if it’s been fully researched- (I’ll happily do the lesbians.) What evidence does he have? is there a growing hole in the ozone just above San Francisco. If that’s the case, we need to start replanting our homosexuals.

What’s the Pope got against homosexuality? In fact what’s gayer than an 82 year old bachelor in a white dress and beads talking latin? Might I suggest that religion is in fact, a bigger threat to humanity, causing wars, terrorism and hatred. What’s the worst thing homosexuality ever caused? Michael Portillo.

And while he was at it, the Pope condemned condom use in Africa. AGAIN! Why’s anyone even asking him? What’s he know about it? Bloody cheek to pretend he does. While you’re at it let’s get cancer cured by Ant+Dec.

How shall we deal with Aids in African? Well we could ask the medical and social experts working in the field, or an 82 year old virgin who literally lives in an ivory tower. What’s that your holiness? Every sperm is sacred…glad you’ve grasped the FACTS.

Perhaps the Pope could stick to the things he actually knows about, ie power, prejudice and Nazism.

If you read in the papers the Vatican had shares in pharmaceutical companies making anti-Aids drug, would you be surprised? Why else are they so keen on doing nothing to combat Aids except saying a few Hail Mary’s?
I know that’s ridiculous. That’d be like the Vatican re-instating Holocaust deniers. That’d be like the Vatican covering up paedophilia in it’s own ranks. That’d be like the Vatican colluded with Nazis to save their own skin. That’d be like the Vatican bank still holding millions of dollars of Nazi gold….hmmm?

Obviously you’d have to read it in a broadsheet. The Sun aren’t running that headline! You try getting a pun rhyming with pharmaceutical.
